Product Review
From the Manufacturer
The Pulstar pulse plug represents the first technological advancement in spark plug design in the past 100 years. Enerpulse, the manufacturer of the Pulstar pulse plug, develops environmentally-friendly ignition products through the application of Pulsed Power Technology (PPT). Pulstar pulse plugs were designed to increase peak power of the spark plug so it can ignite gasoline in the engine's cylinder more completely with less cycle-to-cycle variation. The result is more engine torque, more horsepower, and better fuel economy.

Test results show significant improvements over spark plugs.

Better Fuel Economy
Pulstar pulse plugs improve engine efficiency at the very moment of ignition by increasing the spark volume and energy density. Increasing the energy density of the spark makes ignition more precise with less cycle-to-cycle variation resulting in better fuel economy and driving performance than available from spark plugs.

Increase Horsepower and Torque
Pulstar pulse plugs look and fit like spark plugs, but incorporate an internal capacitor to deliver a spark 10 times more powerful than a spark plug. This faster ignition burns more of the fuel in the combustion chamber, generating more pressure in the cylinder. The increased cylinder pressure pushes the piston down with more force, which in turn, generates more torque to the crankshaft, more liveliness to the throttle, and more power to the wheels.

The Pulse circuit releases a powerful pulse of power.

Test Data
Recent tests demonstrate that Pulstar pulse plugs improved the fuel economy on 2005 and 2007 Prius Hybrid vehicles by 6% to 8%, or approximately 3-mpg. This 3-mpg increase produced by Pulstar means that over its life of approximately 4 years, carbon dioxide greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by 1,344 pounds or over half a ton, making it evident even small changes like changing your spark plugs can translate into big differences for the planet.

Product Guarantee
Pulstar pulse plugs are safe to use in all vehicles. They come with a 30-day no questions asked return policy and are guaranteed not to void your car's manufacturer warranty or damage your engine when properly installed.
Product Description
The Technology: Pulse plugs incorporate a pulse circuit, which stores incoming electrical energy from the ignition system and releases the stored energy in a powerful pulse of power. Instead of 50 watts of peak power typical of all spark plugs, pulse plugs deliver up to 10 times more peak power. It takes electrical power to light fuel. The more power (watts) the better. Fuel Economy: Pulstar pulse plugs look and fit like spark plugs, but Pulstar incorporates an internal capacitor that delivers a more powerful spark than a spark plug which reduces cycle-to-cycle variation increasing fuel economy and reducing associated greenhouse gases. Horse Power: Pulse plugs improve the performance of your vehicle as well as the performance of all aftermarket performance products. Pulse plugs simply ignite fuel better and should be the very first step in improving your engine's performance. Torque: Increase towing capacity at it's source by replacing your spark plugs with Pulstar pulse plugs. You can actually improve low-end torque and towing capacity simply by installing Pulstar in your vehicle. This is because of the unique way Pulstar ignites fuel and generates additional cylinder pressure.

Summary: just another scam 2010-08-19
Comment: just another snake oil scam product, everyone knows there is nothing to gain in spark plugs, read all the other reviews.

Summary: Improved mileage 2010-07-29
Comment: I installed Platinum Pulstars in my 2003 Honda Civic 1.7L in April 2010.

Unfortunately I did not do extensive/multi-tank fuel mileage tests. However, I tested a tank on a "normal" week which includes my wife driving the car to work in Phoenix (62 mi round trip) - then a trip up to Prescott on the weekend (freeway with hill climbs, 75mph). My pre-Pulstar test tank was in March - with no air conditioning used. Got 34.76mpg.

I installed the new plugs in April. With the same routine -but with air conditioning on - and ended up with 39.17mpg. This seemed high, so I have tested 5 more tanks since. Now this includes city/highway combined with air conditioning. Some weeks are only wife driving to work, some weeks with wife to work and our Prescott trip. The average mileage is 36.35mpg.
I have not taken just an open road trip - which I would expect will be at the 40mpg range.

We are definitely getting better mileage - and beat the combined EPA ratings by quite a bit.

Note the official EPA ratings for this car:
City 25 mpg (9.4 litres/100km)
Hwy 35 mpg (6.7 litres/100km)
Combined 29 mpg (8.1 litres/100km)
Figures adjusted for EPA's new 2008 estimation method.

Frankly I could not detect a power change one way or the other.

Summary: Pulstar Plugs for a 1980 350 corvette engine. 2009-11-09
Comment: I installed Plustar plugs in my 1962 Toyota with a 1980 350 corvette engine.
The best MPG I got before was 12.5. I just got 15 MPG using your plugs. I hope that continues. I will let you know.
It runs great. Seems to have a bit more power.
Best of all better MPG.

Summary: Disintegrating plug 2009-08-27
Comment: One of four Pulstar plugs installed in my 2004 Saturn VUE 4 cylinder suffered a disintegrated sparking tip and glass. I have some rather amusing photos of the Pulstar plugs. My engine seemed to have normal operation from time of installation in mid December 2008 until sometime April 2009 when I noticed the engine operated as if it was occasionally "missing". Later I took time to look under the hood and started with the spark plugs ... I didn't have to go any farther.

Enerpulse was nice enough to send me a set of replacement plugs after I notified them of the problem in April 2009. It is now August 2009 and the replacement plugs are working without problem. Today the replacement plugs passed my visual inspection. The spark plugs do increase my mileage from typically 27 - 27.5 mpg to greater than 28.5 mpg.

I'm wondering "what happened to the disintegrated material of the damaged spark plug?" My last oil change was in Feb 2009, it had been a year since the previous change; no need to add oil between changes. The vehicle computer times the need for oil changes depending on the passing of time and engine use. The car is presently between oil changes and required nearly a quart of oil. Up until Feb 2009 I could be lazy and not check my oil very often. Now I realize my car has started using oil and must be checked regularly.
