Denso Iridium Plug Denso's Iridium power spark plugs help your vehicle achieve unparalleled performance. It alters the belief that a mere spark plug can add power and mileage. This is done by combining an ultra-fine 0.4mm diameter Iridium center electrode with a tapered cut U-groove ground electrode. Iridium conducts electricity better than platinum, however what makes it exceptional is it's also 6x harder and 8x stronger than platinum. Because of this, the center electrode can be machined down to 0.4mm. This ultra-fine iridium center electrode provides superior ignition performance during acceleration and top cruising RPM. The U-groove ground electrode creates a larger, brighter flame kernel. The tip of the ground electrode has been tapered which further improves firing performance by reducing quenching. All of these features combine to give more horsepower to your motor. Technical Specifications - 14mm Thread, 25mm (.984") Reach, 5/8" (16mm) Hex Size, Tapered Seat, Resistor, Removable Terminal, 0.4mm Iridium Center Electrode, Tapered Cut U-groove Ground Electrode, .032" (0.8mm) Gap

Spark plugs are exactly what I needed for an ECU flash/upgrade on my Mazdaspeed 6 and Amazon had the best price anywhere I've seen ... still true even though the price has gone up 11% to $9.50 since I bought them on 4/7/2010.

I've tried out many plugs for my Mazdaspeed 3 and these are the best. I've used the factory FoMoCo plugs, step colder Denso (these ITV22's listed here) and both factory heat range NGK's and step colder NGK's and these step colder plugs are definitely in a class unto their own. Some important facts:
Stock heat range Denso's (ITV20) are not gapped correctly for Mazdaspeed's. They are gapped at .60 out of the box. This will require re-gapping them to the .26 to .30 for correct operation. I do NOT advise doing this on Iridium plugs! NGK goes as far to say it would be better to run them at the wrong gap than for you to re-gap their Iridium plugs.
NGK stock heat range laser Iridium spark plugs for the Mazdaspeed's ARE gapped correctly out of the box. These are also identical to the FoMoCo plugs that come in the car from the factory and are listed as direct OEM replacements. These are the NGK Laser Iridiums. Not to be confused with the NGK IX's! Those are a...Read more
