By sweetmustard (Forest Hills, NY United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Denso (5339) ITV20 Iridium Spark Plug, Pack of 1 (Automotive) I just put them in my 2007 Mazda6 i (2.3l non-turbo engine), after 30k miles of NYC metro area driving. I chose to keep the Denso factory gap for now, which was lower than the one specified by Mazda (1.1mm instead of 1.3mm).
The gap was consistent among the four of them, and as specified by Denso: 1.1mm. I did have surprises with other "pre-gaped" plugs; this is why I am checking and gaping them myself. They work great, the idle is a bit smoother. I am not expecting any gas mileage change, we will see. I was a bit disappointed with the quality. Upon close inspection, the machining of the ground electrodes was not that great, and, in one of the four plugs, the welding of the iridium tip was not too great either. I was expecting more from a "Made in Japan" part, something closer to finer mechanics finishing. The original NGKs I took out looked great, I could have easily cleaned them and put them back in. (I am keeping them, maybe use them when I take the Densos...Read more 1 of 2 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Denso (5339) ITV20 Iridium Spark Plug, Pack of 1 (Automotive) I disagree with the other review. This is not a good choice for a stock replacement plug for a Mazdaspeed 3 as these come with a .44 gap out of the box and it should be between .26 to .32 preferably .28 to .30
Do NOT re-gap an iridium plug! You will almost certainly damage the core and lose some of the potential, despite probably not even realizing it, as they will probably still run. NGK goes so far as to say it would be better to run it at the wrong gap than to re-gap an Iridium. Especially one with a core as thin as these Densos. If you go step colder in Denso (ITV22) then note it DOES have the proper gap for a Speed 3, while NGK's step colders DO NOT. For these stock heat ranges, use the NGK's instead as they have the proper gap. It should be pointed out that NGK IX's and Laser Iridium's are different plugs. Their IX's are their high performance while their Laser Iridiums are their super long life power performance. The stock plugs in a Speed are Laser...Read more 1 of 2 people found the following review helpful: By Kevin "kevosbaby" (Locust Grove, VA United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Denso (5339) ITV20 Iridium Spark Plug, Pack of 1 (Automotive) If you own a Mazdaspeed 3 (or any sort of forced induction motor), then you should also own a set of these plugs! The difference between these and everybody else's plugs is night and day. I've owned many different cars and have gone through all of the other brands trying to find a cheaper alternative, without any success. Yes, Denso (and NGK) are more expensive. But you know what they say.....you get what you pay for! |
