These were the OEM plugs that were in my 2001 Passat. They replaced the original set at 173,000 mi. The original set was worn out no doubt, but the car was still running, just a bit rough. I am most pleased with the life of these plugs and was therefore willing to put the same ones back in even though they were the more expensive option.

These may seem expensive, but the 1.8T Passat engine can be finnicky with anything other than the exact plugs that were put in by the manufacturer. If you have misfires or your engine is running rough, this can be one potential solution.
